Donohue Brown Mathewson & Smyth’s new Managing Partner Karen DeGrand was profiled in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin about her history with the firm and plans for the future.

In the article titled “Donohue Brown names DeGrand as managing partner,” Ms. DeGrand discussed the firm’s growth and accomplishments since she joined as part of the original team in 1995 and how she will build on the legacy of her partners.

Ms. DeGrand said her goal as the firm’s Managing Partner is a simple one: “To keep a good thing going.”

“I think it means growth to a certain extent. What we have done historically, although not exclusively, is grow largely from the ground up with summer associates who join the firm and then move up through the ranks,” she said.

Ms. DeGrand leads the firm’s appellate practice and has extensive experience representing clients before the appellate and supreme courts of Illinois and the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Additionally, she advises clients and trial counsel regarding preservation of issues for appeal and handles post-trial proceedings in circuit and district courts. Ms. DeGrand maintains an active trial-level practice defending attorneys and physicians in a wide range of professional liability matters, as well as representing defendants in product liability and employment actions and litigating business and insurance coverage disputes.
