Synopsis:

A 56-year-old wife and mother of two was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain and rectal bleeding. Exploratory surgery was performed which revealed a lacerated spleen.

Plaintiff contended that surgery should not have proceeded given a low hemoglobin level. Chronic renal failure and multiple follow-up surgeries ultimately resulted in death.

Plaintiff demanded $3 million. A directed verdict was entered for the defense.
