James D. Sloan
Jim Sloan specializes in defending medical negligence, product liability and construction negligence actions. He has tried two cases before juries on behalf of a major automobile manufacturer and, in both instances, obtained verdicts in favor of his client. Jim also has second-chaired numerous trials in medical negligence actions and has written several appellate briefs.

Jim co-authored a chapter entitled "Exclusion by Risk," which appeared in Commercial and Professional Liability Insurance, a handbook published by IICLE in 2002. He also gave a presentation on insurance coverage for construction defects under commercial general liability policies at a seminar sponsored by the Illinois Association of Defense Trial Counsel in November 2002.

Jim graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, Illinois, in 1990 and earned his B.A. in American History from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1994. He earned his law degree in 1998 from the Chicago-Kent College of Law. Jim joined DBMS in 2000 after working as a law clerk from 1998 to 2000 for the Honorable Michael J. Colwell in the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District, and became a partner at DBMS in January 2008.
